Fact Sheet

  • Homeboy Industries is a nonprofit organization, providing a space of opportunity, rehabilitation, and reentry for former gang members and formerly incarcerated peoples. 

 

  • Founded in 1988 and currently owned by Father Gregory Boyle, a Roman Catholic priest born in Los Angeles. 

 

  • Received $15 million in funding to support the program of helping incarcerated people.

 

  • Cooperates with famous and professional education organizations, including juvenile detention centers, school systems, LAPD, and community-based organizations.

 

  • Homeboy Industries enterprises include: Homeboy Bakery, Homeboy Art Academy, Homeboy Electronics Recycling, Homegirl Catering, Homeboy Silkscreen, Homeboy Diner, Homeboy Gear, Homegirl Cafe, Homeboy Grocery, and Homeboy Farmers Markets.

 

  • Services offered include: Tattoo Removal, Case Management, Legal Assistance, Workforce Development, Education, Mental Health, Substance Abuse, Anger Management, Parenting Classes, Victims of Domestic Violence, and Batterer’s Intervention.

  • About two-thirds of the staff consists of former members of the program

  • Have 7800 community clients, have undergone 3000 tattoo removal treatments, and employ 24 therapists

 

  • In addition to serving almost 7,000 members of the immediate Los Angeles community in 2018, their flagship 18-month employment and re-entry program was offered to over 400 men and women.

 

  • Contains 31 board directors and 23 key members in the management team.

 

  • Over the past 30 years, the organization expanded to 250 branches over the world within the Global Homeboy Network
