LOS ANGELES, May 12, 2021 -- Homeboy Industries, a nonprofit organization centered on the reintroduction of previously incarcerated and gang-affiliated peoples, is holding an event to let 15 communities in Downtown LA receive the first dose of vaccines. The members in 15 communities are marginalized and justice-impacted people.
Because of Covid-19, people suffered from
a very tough time by enduring
unimaginable hunger and virus pains.
Homeboy Industries connected with the
Los Angeles Regional Food Bank,
Baby2Baby, and the vaccine clinic to give
families in Downtown LA community
resources except for just vaccinations, like
free care kits, diapers and wipes, HIV
testing, prepared meals, and food boxes,
among other items. The most significant
thing is that the event has a future impact
by letting the vaccine clinics return to the
community later to give these people a
second dose of vaccines.
They wanted to convey how people could help each other during the pandemic, letting audiences see the power of the union in the community, motivating more people to help their neighbors who meet obstacles in life because of the pandemic, and spreading public love in society. “It also showed the power in collaborations between governmental entities and non-profit organizations,” said Thomas Vozzo, CEO of Homeboy Industries.
