LOS ANGELES, Aug. 12, 2021 -- Homeboy Industries, a nonprofit organization centered on the reintroduction of previously incarcerated and gang-affiliated peoples, is looking to the future with their first in-person 5K Run/Walk following the COVID-19 pandemic closures to reopen and reconnect with their Los Angeles-based community.

Participants can create a team with families,

friends, neighbors, and co-workers. Runners

living outside of Los Angeles can register as

virtual runners. Volunteers are welcome to

email Homeboy’s team to sign up for various

time slots and roles for the duration of the

event.

This event will advocate for Homeboy

Industries’ mission of fostering a welcoming

community with previously incarcerated

peoples. Their goal is to involve as many

people as possible to increase visibility and

attention towards prison and criminal justice

reform.

“The presence of diverse communities from all walks of life joining together at the Homeboy 5K embodies what it means to serve our neighbors,” says Christine Lynch, the community activist for the Homeboy Industries Board since 2006. “This is what is most necessary to revitalizing our mission, that we recognize that the dignity of our Homeboys and Homegirls are valued with love and integrity even in the most challenging of circumstances. This event is to tell them that we are here for them and they are not forgotten.”
